Ageing Dams: India’s Perspective
Today India has more than 200 dams that are more than 101 years old. Some of these dams, built during the British Raj, have exceeded their life span and have developed crevices and fissures.
Ageing or badly maintained dams which begin to crumble create a flood risk, endangering flora, fauna and human lives and putting a significant financial strain on the governments and stakeholders.
